Not since U2 played five years ago has the Superbowl half-time show been worth watching. This year, Prince showed us how its supposed to be done.
Yes, the stage was shaped like his "symbol." But here is Prince singing covers along with his own songs. He has two dancers, a band, and a back-up singer. That's it. Given the venue, he was cool and understated, while putting on a show.
Think of the toneless garbage the Rolling Stones phoned in last year. This year, we got to see a real musician actually perform! No lip-syncing, and Prince's great guitar playing. Then, the piece de resistance: leading the crowd in "Purple Rain" while the rain actually poured down. Fantastic.
