Religious Literacy

Steve Prothero is a professor at BU (Boston University). He has a new book coming out about America's lack of religious literacy. The basic argument of the book goes something like this:

  1. Most Americans fail a simple test of religious knowledge.
  2. Much of what is going on in the world today is shaped in large part by religion.
  3. Therefore, religion should be taught as a core component of public education.

I must say that I agree with him. Knowing the difference between Sunni and Shiah, for instance, is just as important as knowing the location of England and France on a globe. In today's world, perhaps even more so.
