Yesterday I wrote about the stop sign I saw that had been vandalized to say “Stop Something.” Today, I want to take the other side. I want to encourage us to activate something good during Lent. In popular culture, Lent is about fasting something (chocolate, swearing, Diet Coke, whatever). I don’t often hear the word ‘Lent’ without the related phrase ‘gave it up for.’
But Lent is not just about fasting. It is also about prayer, study, and self examination. It is about taking on a spiritual discipline. So, today I want to encourage us to “Start Something.” Start your morning with prayer. Start reading your Bible again. Start listening to the wind in the trees. Start confessing your sins to a trusted friend. Start to reconcile with your estranged neighbor. Start painting a picture or writing a song. It doesn’t have to be a “big deal.” It can be small. After all, it’s just a Start.
