War, Good God Y'all
I have been working on a presentation about war. I really am not having much fun. Having never been in a war, I feel that I am engaging in a difficult subject from a purely philosophical position. I'm glad I haven't gone through that, but I also know that I can not come from a place of personal experience.
Of course I've been studying the Bible on this. I have also been helped by some of the things that others have said, especially those who have served in the military.
Here are the four quotes I'm starting my presentation with. They have given me some helpful guidance.
"War is evil. Its causes are evil. Its consequences are evil. To call war anything less than evil would be self deception. And, not all evil can be avoided." --Dr. Arthur Holmes
"For a Christian to think about and wrestle with the issues of war is to struggle with the problem of evil." --Captain Timothy Dehny of the U.S. Navy Chaplains
"War is wretched beyond description, and only a fool or a fraud could sentimentalize its cruel reality." --John McCain
"War is Hell." --William Tecumseh Sherman
